Mortgage Rate Tracker — Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 5, 2026
Mortgage Rate Tracker ("the app") is a mortgage-rate and calculator app published by Chinese Powered ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app handles and by whom. The short version: there are no accounts, and nothing you enter in the app is ever sent to us. The only data collection comes from the advertising service described below, and purchases are handled by Apple or Google.
Data stored on your device only
Everything the app remembers — your saved mortgage, saved homes, calculator inputs, rate alerts, settings (including a name you add for shared rate cards), the rate data it has downloaded, your Pro status as last reported by the store, and a few counters and dates used to pace ads and the occasional rating prompt — is saved in the app's local storage on your device. We never see it; it is not uploaded anywhere. Deleting the app deletes this data. (It may be included in your phone's own device backups, which follow your Apple or Google backup settings.)
The app has no accounts and no sign-in, and there is no server of ours that holds anything about you.
Rate data the app downloads
To show current rates, the app downloads public files: first our own copy at mortgage.chinesepowered.com/data/rates.json, and, if that is missing or out of date, the original files straight from Freddie Mac (www.freddiemac.com), the U.S. Treasury (home.treasury.gov) and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis's FRED service (fred.stlouisfed.org). These are plain file downloads: the app sends nothing about you, your loan or your alerts with them. Like any web request, though, the server that answers sees your device's IP address and the app's user agent (a short description of the app and system version) and may record them in its normal logs — ours included (see "This website" below).
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob: a banner, an occasional full-screen ad at a natural break (never in your first session), and an optional rewarded video you can choose to watch to open the Pro tools for 24 hours. With Pro (subscription or lifetime) there are no ads. When an ad is requested, Google's SDK may collect device information such as advertising identifiers, IP address, approximate location derived from it, and ad-interaction data, used for ad delivery, measurement and fraud prevention. Ad content is limited to Google's "PG" rating.
- Consent: where regulation requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and some US states), Google's consent form is shown before any ad is requested. If you don't consent, you still see ads, but they aren't personalized.
- On iOS, after that, the app asks for App Tracking Transparency permission. Ads use your device's advertising identifier only if you allow it there, and you can change your mind any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. Ads are personalized only when both the consent form (where it applies) and your tracking choice allow it.
- Where the consent form applies, the app's own Settings screen carries an "Ad privacy options" row that reopens it.
- On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's Google settings.
- Details: Google's Privacy Policy, how Google uses data in AdMob and how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Purchases (App Store / Google Play)
Mortgage Rate Tracker Pro (a monthly or yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase) is sold through Apple's App Store or Google Play, which process the payment — we never see your payment details. To turn Pro on, and to restore it on a new device, the app asks the store, on your device, which purchases your store account owns (through Apple's StoreKit or Google Play Billing), and remembers the answer on the device so Pro keeps working offline. No third-party purchase service and no server of ours is involved. Apple's and Google's own privacy policies cover what they do with your purchase.
Notifications and background refresh
If you allow notifications, the app shows them from your device: a weekly update when Freddie Mac publishes new averages, and your rate alerts when a new weekly average crosses your target. They are local notifications: no push-notification server is involved and no notification token is sent anywhere. You can turn them off in the app or in your device's settings.
While you have a rate alert or the weekly update turned on, the app registers a background task (BGTaskScheduler on iOS, WorkManager on Android) so the system can occasionally wake it, even while it is closed, to download the same public rate files and check your alerts. It sends nothing about you. Turning off your alerts and the weekly update stops it.
Sharing
When you share a rate card or a result, the app hands the image or text to your phone's own share sheet and it goes only where you send it. The app doesn't upload it or keep a copy on any server.
Analytics
The app contains no analytics SDK. We do not track how you use it. If you have chosen to share diagnostics with app developers in your phone's settings, Apple or Google may give us aggregated crash and performance reports.
This website
This site (mortgage.chinesepowered.com) is a set of static pages. The home page loads Google AdSense, which may set or read cookies and collect information such as your IP address and browser details to show and measure ads; see how Google uses cookies in advertising and Google's Privacy Policy. The rates card on the home page fetches a static file (data/rates.json) from this same site. We set no cookies of our own, and this page and the Terms of Use load no ads.
Like any web server, ours sees the IP address and browser or app details of each request and may keep them in standard access logs, which we use only to operate and secure the site.
Children
Mortgage Rate Tracker is a general-audience finance app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your choices
- Ad personalization: "Ad privacy options" in the app's Settings (where the consent form applies); on iOS, Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking; on Android, your advertising-ID settings.
- Notifications: turn off the weekly update and your alerts in the app, or notifications for the app in your device settings.
- Subscription: manage or cancel in your App Store or Google Play account settings (the app links there from Settings › Manage subscription).
- Your data: Settings › Erase my data removes your saved mortgage, saved homes, calculator inputs, rate alerts and the name on shared rate cards from your phone. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.
Changes
If a future version changes any of the above, this policy will be updated before that version ships, with the date above revised.
